This post is not a sermon. Normally I do not post anything other than sermons on this site. I want to reach out to the viewers of this site through this post. As most of us begin our studies for sermon preparation we run into obstacles from time to time. Maybe you find the information here useful. If you do please leave a comment with any questions we might be able to help you with. Also, if you would like to see a sermon posted on a particular subject make your desire known. It may take some time to get it posted, but I will begin work on it as soon as possible.

Thank you visiting this site and may God bless His family, Glorify His name and draw souls to His grace through this work.

What is My Purpose? Wednesday, Mar 12 2008

We live in a time when too many people are bouncing around from one place to another because they are searching for meaning and purpose. The idea of purpose in itself is not bad. The idea of purpose being for us is where the theological lines must be drawn. All who are saved by grace through faith and understand they are saved by grace will see this truth and its importance. We are created by God and given gifts to fulfill our purpose. Still our work is not our purpose.

A great deal of the misery experienced today is encountered due to our misguided beliefs. That statement sounds too bold and maybe a little thoughtless. Let me borrow your heart, mind and soul for a little while and explain why our thoughts concerning purpose are often misguided.

Going into this message we should have our Bibles and  our heart opened. Knowing this we can ask God to give us understanding through His grace to understand His thoughts on our purpose. After all He created us for that purpose. This means His thoughts are correct and without error. If we learn the truth in scripture we will have no need to argue with anyone or doubt our purpose on this earth.

read Isaiah 43:7

OUR PURPOSE IS TO GLORIFY GOD!!

  1. With our mouth Psalm 29:9, Isaiah 66:19
    • in words spoken
    • in the songs we sing = Psalm 138:5
    • in the prayers we pray = 1Chronicles 16:35
  2.  With our Hands
    • our works = Matthew 5:16, Colossians 3:23
    • touch = Romans 16:16 (note = given our current culture a handshake is just fine)
    • lifting of hands in worship = Psalm 28:2, 1Timothy 2:8

This is a beginning for you in studying your purpose. In everything we do let us remember in all things to God be the Glory! After all that is our purpose. Understansing we are created to glorify God is the beginning of finding purpose in whatever you do. Does God want you to drive a bus or be a doctor? Does God want you to be a nurse or a teacher? These questions are haunting far too many Christians who have not been taught the Simple Truth about purpose. Wherever you are, whatever you say and whatever you do it is to be done unto the Lord. That is your purpose!

Only Bad People Go to Heaven Friday, Feb 8 2008

Matthew chap. 23

I remember as a small child staying with my great Aunt Leat. As children we naturally told little white lies in effort to escape punishment for wrongdoing.  Aunt Leat had a way of knowing every time we were trying to pull the wool over her eyes. She would say to us; “there want be any liars in heaven”, followed by the old symbol for shame, shame, shame.

Our attempt was one begging for approval in the midst of our wrongdoing, better known as sin. Churches are full of people living such childish lives making attempts to be accepted among society as righteous without following the only path to righteousness.

This is the place where things get down and dirty. Many still teach the way of righteousness comes from living right and doing well. Let me take a few words and try to get your attention, and maybe even upset your theology for a moment. Living right and doing well is not the way of righteousness… (Pause while folks catch their breath)…  There is only one way to righteousness. Matthew 7:14 says, “straight is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to  life and few there be that find it”. Jesus said He is the way, truth and life and no one comes to the father but by him. The way to righteousness is through the only righteous to ever live. Jesus Christ.

Many are living today believing they are righteous. They believe the lie they tell themselves and they convince others of the same fallacy. These people are so good they will miss the place called Heaven. Let me finish introducing today’s message by stirring your soul with a disturbing statement. “Only bad people will go to Heaven”. These will be the ones who realize even in their most righteous state as a person they are filthy before a Holy God.

The issues of Pharisaic actions are not bound to any denomination. They cross every ethnic, gender and age boundary. Let us not think we are exempt from this possible way of thinking and living.

Let us now lay out the differences between good and bad people according to Matthew chapter 23.

I. GOOD PEOPLE

a. Tell others how good they are

i. They also tell others how bad they are

ii. They are always watching and waiting for you to mess up to point it out

b. Prey on vulnerable people

i. They use sad times of widows to gain stature

ii. They use the poverty of others to enlarge their own bank account

iii. They will do nothing for anyone if they can’t get gain

c. Attracted others to so called Religious stature

i. Religion was popular to the Pharisees

1. Today certain religious sects are popular

d. Swear by the gold and goods in the temple

i. Churches success is too often judged by its bank account or appearance

e. Put traditions above the truth of God’s word

f. Seen paying tithes

i. Overlook important things like mercy and faith

!!! Appearance is everything to Pharisees. They are seeking the approval and status among men. They will therefore have their reward among men and not in Heaven. (Matthew 6:5 and 16).

Those who always view themselves as good people have not been broken by the conviction brought by the Holy Spirit of God. If you don’t know you are bad you are not good. If you know you are bad you are good.

Broken by the Spirit of God = realizing your sinful state

By faith accepting Gods free gift of grace = knowing we can do nothing to save ourselves.

Being transformed = made into a new creature in Christ

He is Holy and we are not

He is worthy of praise and we are not

He is righteous and we are not

He is sinless and we are not

Unless you know you are bad you will not accept Gods grace by faith and escape the wrath to come. Therefore you will not be in Heaven. Only bad people go to Heaven!!

Psalm 23-God’s Pasture Friday, Jan 18 2008

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. Can you say that and know it is true?

Psalm 23 is probably the most widely used chapter used during funeral services. Indeed it is fitting. I would like to ask you to turn your thoughts in the opposite direction from the standard use of this wonderful part of scripture. Though it brings comfort for the living at the time of loss it should also bring comfort, peace and strength to the living. This Psalm is a Psalm of life; abundant life! (John 10;10).

Gods Pasture

  • Lying Down in Green Pastures
    • wanting nothing (Matthew 6:8 and Philippians 4:19)
      • I am at perfect peace knowing I am cared for by the Shepherd
    • the peace which passes all understanding (Philippians 4:6-9)
      • I know longer have to worry about life, death or the matters that pertain to either (James 4:14).
  • Led by the Shepherd
    • He directs my path to the pasture He prepares (Psalm 119:105).
    • He corrects my straying from the path (Matthew 18:12 and Proverbs 3:11).
      • God sets up fences to keep us in the pasture.
        • Conscience (natural understanding of a good and bad), Conviction (the Holy Spirit in you), Consideration (cause and effect)
  • Love at it’s Best
    • God shows us His grace (John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:6-8)
    • God shows us His mercy (Mattew 9:13)
      • He could have left us to our sinful reward
    • He leads us by still waters
      • He keeps us from trouble in the soul when we remain in His pasture.
        • We could avoid a great deal of our stress and anxiety by simply obeying the direction set forth in scripture.
Understanding God leads us right to the bountiful supply of our every legitimate need magnifies His amazing love. Knowing that lying down is not just in death, but also in the midst of the abundant life!

The Real Jesus Christ Saturday, Jan 12 2008

John 1:1-5 & 14I ask you today; “Do you know Jesus Christ”? The question reads simple, but it is actually complex. The complexity comes when you consider the depth of your own answer. Many people will answer in different ways. Some say yes. Some say no. Some say yes, and continue to live toward eternal destruction. The next question I ask is all but the same. Do you know the “Real” Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ is God! In our society it is difficult to think of ourselves as servants. If we believe in the real Jesus Christ we will be just that, servants. The current culture of our nation demands to be accepted as we are without judgement. Many of those who demand to be accepted without change are those who claim to know and love Christ on the grounds of HIs acceptance. The Simple Truth is this; these folks do not know the real Jesus Christ in any form.

The real Jesus does come to us where we are. When He finds us He changes our heart, soul, mind and everything about us. When we are born again we are new creatures. The real Jesus, though He is a perfect gentlemen, challenges all who He calls!

He Challenges What we do.

  • Jesus said if we love Him we will keep His commandments. (John 14:15)

He Challenges Why we do what we do

  • Jesus came to do the will of the Father. If we do anything for anyone other than the Father we do it for the wrong reasons.

He Challenges our Worship

  • When Jesus met with the woman at the well He challenged her to answer what she was doing with the man she lived with. He also challenged her worship. (John ch. 4)

Our worship will answer all the above. How, who and why we worship will explain our position in Christ. Do we know the real Jesus Christ or do we only have a fantasy of a Jesus who has no commands, no Deity and no authority. We must understand when we know the Real Christ we only know Him as He is presented in scripture. Not as we dream in our own human mind. If the real Jesus has introduced Himself to you and called you to salvation know this:

Many preach Jesus desires Lordship over our lives. If we Know the Real Jesus Christ He does more than desire Lordship over our lives. He assumes Lordship over us. He takes it.

If He, the Real Christ, has called you and assumed Lordship over you you can answer with a joyful yes to the question; “do you know the Real Christ”? If you have been living in a fantasy with no real transformation ask the question; “do I know the Real Jesus Christ”?

Creation Proclaims Saturday, Jan 12 2008

January 7, 2008 · No Comments

Psalm 19:1, Collossians 1:16-17Many people argue the fundamentals of God and His involvement in His creation. Everything created bears God’s signature as He is the artist. Some say they do not believe in God, but they believe in spirits,(Isaiah 5:20). I ask those people who created the spirits? They become agitated and rightfully so. Light and darkness enjoy no fellowship together!, (2 Corinthians 6:14). When we look at the handy-work of God we see creation proclaims!

Creation Proclaims;

God’s Deity

  1. God is the creator. No one of creations elements can be above God. Without His word nothing is made. (John 1:1-5)
  • God grants man dominion over the earth and all plants, animals and the earth, but man does not have rule over the one who created them.
  • Though God gives man dominion over these man must rule over them according to God’s plan.

›We know this because God told Adam and Eve to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When they rebelled punishment was issued.

God’s Dominion

  1.  God is in Control
  • God allows us to invent using the items He has already created. (Ecclesiastes 1:9)
  • Though God allows us to invent our inventions perish. Only God is from everlasting to everlasting. (Psalm 90:2 & Isaiah 63:16)
  • With all of our medical inventions and the compassion we administer such we can not determine the beginning of life through science or the end of life the same. God purposes our existence and He determines our end. (Job 14:1-5)

God’s Determination

  1. God causes
  • We know life as cause and effect. God is the cause of life and all creation. He determined when time as we know it began.
  • God also “has” determined when time as we know it will end. (see Revelation)

May we recognize God as the sovereign and holy Creator! Amen.
